Exciting opportunity to lead a major English language programme in South East Asia

CfBT runs the world's largest, longest running and most successful programme to develop English language proficiency in government schools. Working alongside the Ministry of Education in Brunei Darussalam since 1984, the programme delivers innovative, high impact teaching and learning for Bruneian students. Through specialised national support and the continuous building of our own and local capacity across schools, we support our students to become proficient English language speakers and confident learners.

We seeking an exceptional leader to serve as Chief Executive Officer of CfBT in Brunei. This important role will drive the strategic direction, operational excellence, and educational impact. You will lead and develop strategic relationships with the Ministry of Education, Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders, representing CfBT and Education Development Trust (edt) at the highest levels. You will oversee the delivery of the English Language Teaching Project (ELTP) and broader educational initiatives, ensuring quality, compliance, and financial sustainability.

A competitive tax-free salary of between B$136,000 - B$153,000 (Currently equivalent to £80-90K)

Due to government work permit restrictions you must be under 55 years old on arrival in Brunei

The ideal candidate for the role will have:

Experience of building effective relationships with key stakeholders and government officials across South East Asia, with a track record of developing influential networks throughout the region.
Exceptional interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills and be able to represent the CfBT confidently and effectively at the highest levels.
Proven experience in leading organisations or large-scale programmes aimed at improving educational or skills outcomes, with a focus on innovation and measurable impact.
Proven success in delivering sustainable financial performance, commercial decision making at scale and high-value contract negotiations

If you would like to know more, please download our Job Description. Brunei Darussalam is a small, peaceful country on the island of Borneo in South-East Asia. It is surrounded by pristine tropical jungle and beaches with temperatures around 27 - 30 degrees all year. There is an abundance of wildlife, with colourful tropical birds and monkeys. It is an excellent base for travel opportunities within Borneo as well as the wider South East Asia region with easy access to places such as Singapore, Bali, Thailand and Malaysia.

CfBT Education Services is affiliated to Education Development Trust (edt), a UK education charity that exists to transform lives by improving education around the world. We work collaboratively with national and local governments, schools and other partners to design and deliver sustainable solutions to improve education. CfBT has been working with the Ministry of Education in Brunei for 40 years to raise the proficiency and attainment levels of Bruneian students through high impact teaching and learning in classrooms, specialized national support and intervention programmes, and the continuous building of our own and local capacity across primary and secondary schools and sixth form colleges.
