We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Officer to join our growing and successful Research team.

Research is central to the work of Education Development Trust. We invest each year in a programme of international educational research and we deliver an exciting and demanding portfolio of research work for clients. The Senior Research Officer is a research expert who will support the Head of Research and the wider team to manage and deliver these portfolios of. The post holder will have line management responsibility.  

Essential skills and experience:
  • Applicants must have an advanced degree - preferably hold or be working towards a PhD in a relevant education (or other social science) discipline, monitoring and evaluation or statistics 
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate competence in a range of quantitative research methodologies and have experience designing, supervising and conducting experimental (or quasi-experimental) studies in low- and middle-income countries. Familiarity with SPSS or STATA is required. 
  • The applicant will also be competent in the full range of qualitative methodologies. Familiarity with NVIVO is required.
  • Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be adept at editing the work of others. We invite applicants to share examples of their published work.
  • Applicants must have experience of designing and leading research projects, preferably in the field of education.
  • Applicants should have experience of designing, leading and conducting large-scale evaluation studies too, preferably in a low-income context.
  • The post is UK based so right to work in the UK is essential. 
In addition, the successful candidate will have: 
  • a demonstrable interest in education internationally
  • excellent project and programme management skills
  • experience managing teams and individuals
  • familiarity with budget setting and management 
The work will involve ensuring the research projects are progressing according to schedule and budget and taking part in all aspects of research activity as needed.  This will involve designing and planning research projects, developing tools for use in the field, supervising and contributing to fieldwork, supervising and contributing to analysis and reporting, commissioning and managing research teams to deliver work, writing and contributing to bids for new work, supervising and building capacity of colleagues across the organisation, editing reports to ensure they are ready for publication, liaising with colleagues to create and deliver dissemination plans and supporting colleagues across the department and organisation with research work. There will be opportunities for travel.
